Taichung Job Fair for People with Disabilities: 31 Companies Offering 600 Job Openings, The Ministry of Labor Promotes Job Redesign to Enhance Employment Opportunities

On May 9, 2025, the Taichung World Trade Center hosted the "2025 Employment Expo for People with Disabilities," co-organized by the Ministry of Labor's Taichung-Changhua-Nantou Branch and local governments. Thirty-one companies offered nearly 600 job openings, attracting over 500 people with disabilities. The event introduced the "Interview Optimization" service for the first time, combined with job redesign to enhance the efficiency of employment matching through simulations and assessments, and showcased assistive devices to support the employment of people with disabilities.
31 Companies Offer 600 Job Openings, Attracting Over 500 Job Seekers with Disabilities
This large-scale job fair featured 31 companies participating in recruitment, offering nearly 600 job openings in diverse industries such as manufacturing, services, healthcare, and retail. According to the organizers, about 80% of the positions offer salaries exceeding NT$30,000, with nearly 30% offering more than NT$35,000. Zhengguang Pharmacy's pharmacist position offers an annual salary of up to NT$1.03 million, making it the most eye-catching high-paying position at the event.
The event attracted over 500 individuals with disabilities to participate in interviews, showing a strong desire and proactive attitude towards employment. The venue also featured five service areas, including a "Career Exploration Zone" and a "Vocational Training Zone," offering diverse services such as resume reviews, mock interviews, and vocational training course consultations to help job seekers enhance their workplace competitiveness.
22 Schools Team Up to Participate, Strengthening Career Preparation through Practical Training
This year, 22 schools formed teams of graduating students with disabilities to participate, representing a nearly 30% increase from last year. Participating schools included Nankai University of Technology, Changhua Beidou Home Economics and Commercial High School, and Nantou Shuili Industrial and Commercial High School. Guided by special education teachers, students experienced the job application process through mock and on-site interviews.
Special education teachers noted that such practical training not only boosts students' confidence but also familiarizes them with the workplace environment and government resources, aiding in their employment preparation post-graduation. During the interview process, students reflected on their strengths and areas for improvement, offering significant help for their future career development.
Ministry of Labor Promotes Job Redesign to Enhance Job-Person Compatibility
To improve the job fit for individuals with disabilities, the Ministry of Labor introduced "Interview Optimization" services at the job fair for the first time this year, incorporating the concept of job redesign. Through job analysis, companies planned "actual work simulations" and "observational assessments," allowing job seekers to demonstrate their abilities in simulated scenarios, and enabling companies to more accurately assess human resource fit.
The event showcased various assistive devices and work aids, such as voice electronic scales, water level alarms, and voice thermometers. A visually impaired barista was invited to demonstrate how to use these tools to complete the brewing process, showcasing the work capabilities of individuals with disabilities when given appropriate support.
Minister of Labor Shen-Han Hung was present at the event, stating that Taiwan currently has over one million individuals with disabilities, with a labor force participation rate of about 21.9%. To assist individuals with disabilities in overcoming employment barriers, the Ministry of Labor actively promotes a vocational rehabilitation network, offering customized services such as vocational assessments, job redesign, supportive and sheltered employment, and implements the spirit of "reasonable accommodation" in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) to ensure equal participation in the workplace.
Local and Central Governments Collaborate to Showcase the Results of Resource Integration
On the event day, Taichung City Labor Bureau Director Shuyuan Lin, Changhua County Government Labor Affairs Deputy Director Qiulan Wu, and Nantou County Social and Labor Affairs Bureau Director Zhizhong Lin were present. Liu Xiuzhen, Director of the Central Taiwan Branch, expressed gratitude for the long-term support from local governments, enabling the annual job fair for individuals with disabilities to fully integrate local resources and form a comprehensive employment service network.
She noted that among the companies participating in recruitment this year, 14 have met or exceeded the legal employment standards, and 3 are non-obligatory friendly companies, indicating growing corporate support for employing individuals with disabilities. According to the Ministry of Labor statistics, the national rate of companies meeting the employment standards for individuals with disabilities in 2024 reached 91.6%, a historic high, assisting 36,000 people in employment.
Continuous Services, Continued Resources After the Job Fair
Although the job fair was held for only one day, the Central Taiwan Branch emphasized that employment services for individuals with disabilities will continue uninterrupted. Those in need can seek assistance at vocational rehabilitation service centers for individuals with disabilities established by local governments, contact employment centers of the Central Taiwan Branch, or call the toll-free hotline 0800-777888 for further information.
